Running a Small Business and just handling everyday Personal business can be very intimidating to think of. Hopefully the TIPS below can relieve some of the stress of a few of the things you were dreading to do.
| TIP - If you have a basic understanding of filing your taxes but are a little nervous about making the correct calculations, purchase TurboTax Basic at Walmart or any office supply store. It takes you step-by-step and does all the calculations for you. I've used it for myself and my clients for 14 years. It saves you lots of money because it only costs about $25, and TurboTax even offers a FREE version of their software if you meet their income limits. That's nothing when you think about paying H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt $300 or more. If you are normally due a refund, using TurboTax and choosing direct deposit will get your refund in your bank account in as little as 8 days. It is common knowledge that if you apply for a Rapid Refund from H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt and don't end up qualifying for it or there is some issue with your being able to get your refund via Rapid Refund, that they will still deduct the fee ($300+) from your refund even when it comes back in 2 weeks or more. It's simply not worth it. Buy TurboTax. |
| TIP - Attention, Small Businesses. Whether you decide to prepare your own taxes, hire me to prepare them for you, or choose option C (hire H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt, or an accountant), please note the following tip. The IRS requires you to report all of your income, but the IRS does NOT require you to report all of your expenses. In many cases, though you may have been brainwashed that more expenses help you on your tax return, but that is not always the case. If your business does not make very much money or even actually ends up with a net profit LOSS, it is not necessarily to your advantage to report all of your expenses. If you use TurboTax and test this theory, you will be able to see in real-time whether it will or will not help you with your bottom line for your federal tax return. I have to teach this to many of my small business clients because other companies just won't. Sometimes their employees don't even know this simple small fact. You can call the IRS to verify this information at 1-800-829-1040. |
| TIP - Whether you need an 800# for business or personal use, I recommend you get service from OPEX Long Distance. I had been an AT&T customer for over 15 years before I found out about OPEX LD. I wished I had found them 15 years ago because I would have saved hundreds (maybe thousands) of dollars. OPEX LD charges about $4 / month and $0.10 (varies on your location) and about $1.50 for additional lines. That is the very cheapest and dependable service I have ever found, and that's really saying something considering how money conscious (my husband calls me cheap, I consider myself frugal) I am. They don't even charge a "set-up" fee. So, if you need an 800#, order it from OPEX Long Distance. |
